Review

The series "My Brilliant Friend," inspired by Elena Ferrante's novel, was a true immersion into the world of complex human relationships and life's trials. This story takes us back to the 1950s, to a poor neighborhood of Naples, where the journey of two girls, Elena and Lila, unfolds. However, what seems like a simple tale of friendship turns into a profound exploration of its multilayered nature, which can be both inspiring and destructive.

Lila emerges as a brilliant but incredibly complex individual, whose vibrant personality often devolved into a desire to control the life of her loved one. Her outstanding intelligence and talents seemed to overshadow Elena, leaving the latter in the shadow of her extraordinary character. Nevertheless, Elena, despite her envy and inner torment, has come a long way toward her own freedom and independence. The series' creator not only skillfully conveyed the atmosphere of Italy at that time but also portrayed the multilayered characters so realistically that you literally feel the emotions as you watch. Their stories weave together into a complex web of friendship, where every thread can simultaneously support or destroy. Elena seems to be the one who managed to break free from this tangled web of influences and became, for me, a true symbol of strength and self-realization.

But this series is more than just a story about friendship. It explores Elena's romantic feelings for Nino, a man from her childhood who became both the embodiment of her dreams and a source of insecurity. Nino, with his charisma and success, made Elena doubt herself, awakening feelings of inadequacy. However, her evolution seems to reflect the struggle each of us faces with the barriers we create ourselves. Toward the end, Elena comes to a crucial realization: Nino isn't worthy of her love and should be left in the past. His character reminds us of the importance of choosing our circle of friends wisely—to seek out people who accept you for who you are, inspire you, and support you along the way.

"My Brilliant Friend" is more than a series. It's a story about self-discovery through the lens of our connections with others. It teaches us about the power of inner freedom and the need to live your unique life without fear of leaving the past behind.
My personal, unique review, especially for the wikiserial.org portal.
