I really love this series
This series is a true gem, one I can watch over and over again! Jonathan Rhys Meyers as King Henry VIII is simply amazing, outshining all his predecessors. This is where he truly revealed his acting genius! His Henry is the embodiment of the modern male dream: he changes wives like gloves, without thinking about the consequences, living in the here and now, taking everything in life.
The series is visually stunning, transporting us to the turbulent era celebrated in French romance novels. Every actor is spot on: Maria Doyle Kennedy as Catherine of Aragon, Natalie Dormer, dazzling as Anne Boleyn, and many others. Passions, intrigues – it all draws you in, like a whirlpool! It's a true theatrical performance, incredibly intertwined with reality. Friend or foe? Manipulator or innocent victim? You'll never guess! And, as it happens in life, heroes pay for their sins and secret desires, sometimes even to the guillotine.
And Henry Cavill as Charles Brandon! This role became a real springboard for his career after the not-so-successful "Albert Mondego" in "Monte Cristo." Natalie Dormer is the kind of woman you can't help but fall in love with, a true cunning fox! And in general, the women who surrounded Henry seemed far more striking than their historical counterparts.
Watching this series or listening to historical films, you can't help but wonder: was there true love back then? After all, family is support, understanding... But here? Brotherly love, as such, was nonexistent. Wives, by and large, tolerated their husbands, and the children were just pawns in this grand game. Henry VIII's wives and his entire court were nothing but chess pieces, in a game where you either win or lose.
