A brief description of the events of the series

After the tragic loss of his wife, Tony finds himself in a state of deep emotional emptiness that consumes him entirely. Overwhelmed by immense pain and hopelessness, he comes to the conclusion that the only way to cope with this grief is to completely give up on his depression and distance himself from all familiar moral guidelines. The only thing that keeps him going during this dark period of his life is his loyal dog friend Brandy, whose unconditional devotion becomes the only bright spot in his dark days.

Tony's daily life devolves into an endless repetition of monotonous rituals that seem to cement his isolation and emotional isolation. He mechanically attends therapy sessions, visits his elderly father in a nursing home, and spends hours watching videos that preserve images and moments from the life of his late wife. This cycle seems to him the only possible way to exist without letting his emotions get the better of him.

Only after long and painful months, gradually immersing himself in his own thoughts and experiences, Tony begins to understand that he can no longer continue to live like this. The realization of the inevitability of change slowly penetrates his consciousness, requiring him to find the inner strength and courage to break the chains of his grief and take the first step towards restoring and renewing his life.

Interesting facts and notes

  • The series was created by Ricky Gervais, a multifaceted creator who simultaneously took on the roles of director, screenwriter and producer, and also played the lead role. Gervais is widely known to viewers thanks to such works as the fantasy drama "The Invention of Lying", as well as the legendary British tragicomedy "The Office". Each of these stories made his name iconic in the world of modern film projects.
  • Filming for the series began on May 9, 2018, in the capital of Great Britain, London, covering picturesque areas such as Hampstead. In addition to city locations, work on the project was also carried out in the suburbs: stage episodes were filmed in Hemel Hempstead and Beaconsfield. An additional decoration of the series was the footage filmed on the amazing Camber Sands beach in East Sussex, whose nature breathed special harmony and beauty into the atmosphere of the show.
  • One of the features of the series is a rich set of secondary characters who played an important role in revealing the story. Among them, a psychotherapist with an unpredictable approach stands out to his work; the protagonist's elderly father, who is facing difficulties due to Alzheimer's disease; a woman who visits the cemetery every day to communicate with the memory of her deceased husband, as well as a number of other characteristic figures who add color to the plot.
  • The story centers on a theme that can provoke deep reflection: truthfulness as the highest value or the need for lies and even virtuous hypocrisy to maintain a balance in life. This philosophical question is revealed through the actions of the characters, giving the viewer the opportunity to think about how much the truth can be desirable or painful.
  • The climax of the third season demonstrates an important discovery for the development of the main character: despite the fact that Tony does not achieve boundless happiness, he finds inner peace. Overcoming isolation and overwhelming egoism becomes a strong step forward for him, showing the power of change both in his personal life and in his views on the world around him.
