The American television series Lucifer is based on Mike Carey's Lucifer comic book series, featuring the character created by Neil Gaiman for his seminal work Sandman. The original artwork was published by the Vertigo imprint, which is owned by DC Comics.

The show premiered on January 25, 2016, and was renewed for a second season on April 7 of that year. Subsequently, on February 13, 2017, production on a third season was announced. However, despite the series' popularity, on May 11, 2018, it was announced that the project would end after the release of the third season. Fans were treated to two additional episodes, serving as a sort of epilogue to the story. The series' status changed a month later: on June 16, 2018, the streaming platform Netflix acquired the rights to the series and began production on a fourth season, which premiered on May 8, 2019. Just a month later, on June 7, 2019, Netflix confirmed the development of a fifth season, comprising 16 episodes. In June 2020, it was announced that the sixth season would be the series' finale.

Starting with the fourth season, the series has been available in its entirety on the Netflix platform, including Russian dubbing. This allows Russian viewers to enjoy the story in its original format, preserving the atmosphere and spirit of the source material.

Plot

A brief description of the events of the series

The Lord of the Underworld, Lucifer, decides to allow himself a break from the grueling everyday life of Hell and goes to the sunny metropolis of Los Angeles. There, he decides to do something completely unexpected for a demon - he opens a luxurious nightclub, which instantly becomes a popular place among the city's elite. However, the tranquility of his new life is shattered when a young woman who had previously used his help to achieve success in her career is murdered right before his eyes. Outraged by the brutality of this crime and driven by a thirst for justice, Lucifer decides to find the culprit. During the investigation, he unexpectedly becomes a partner of police detective Chloe Decker, whose unique view of the world and principles of work awaken something completely new in him. At first, cooperation with the police seems to Lucifer just an exciting game, an opportunity to decorate his existence with thrills. He helps solve cases as a civilian consultant, adding his unique charisma and remarkable intellect to the process. This activity serves him mainly for entertainment. However, over time, he begins to realize that a sincere interest in working as a fighter for justice is emerging within him. Despite his supernatural abilities and status as a fallen angel, Lucifer does not hide his true nature, openly declaring to others who he is. However, his frankness is not taken seriously by anyone - people accustomed to his sarcasm and quirky humor consider such statements to be a joke.

The culmination of this transformation occurs when Lucifer gains a deep understanding of his true mission. He comes to the realization that his purpose is not only to rule Hell, but also to provide tormented souls with a chance at redemption and peace. Thanks to his efforts, sinners are given the opportunity to ascend to Heaven after sincere repentance. This turn radically changes the usual perception of Lucifer as the embodiment of evil and forever rewrites his own destiny.

Interesting facts and notes

• A psychologist mentors Lucifer and solves problems in the heads of other angels and demons, who are many billions of years old from the moment of their creation by God. The viewer may get the feeling that the supernatural beings of the series have simply done nothing and did not learn anything for many centuries, did not gain experience, knowledge and wisdom from communicating with people and their own kind.
• It is noteworthy that anyone can take the elevator to Lucifer's abode in his club and stay there, because it is constantly unlocked. As if Lucifer does not care about the safety of his earthly and unearthly property.
• Throughout many episodes and seasons, Lucifer tries to confess to Chloe about his essence. But she always interrupts him and doesn't want to listen. There is always some reason: either she is offended by Lucifer, or she doesn't want to hear, listen, talk. And Lucifer tactfully gives in and doesn't insist. If Chloe had initially known what Lucifer wanted to tell her, she would have undoubtedly listened to him. It is interesting that Lucifer constantly finds a time to tell this when Chloe categorically doesn't want to hear anything. This happens throughout the seasons.
• In the first season, Amenadiel claims that a demon cannot defeat an angel, and a season later, Lucifer's demon almost "killed" him. In general, the angels of "Lucifer" are comparatively weak, say, in relation to the angels of the "Supernatural" universe.
• The writers presented the concept of Hell in a peculiar way in the series: here it is presented as a cyclical and endless experience of one event (day, minute). And only Lucifer can break this endless circle.
• Lucifer himself is presented as an angel, albeit a fallen one, and at the same time as a devil. This is confirmed by his angelic wings and devilish appearance.
• The angels of this universe sleep, drink, eat, but they cannot kill people, since they can lose their angelic powers.
• Lucifer spent billions of years in Hell, albeit as a ruler. In Los Angeles, the "city of angels", he lives like in Heaven.
• Lawyer Charlotte, having retrained as a junior prosecutor, decides from her first day on the job whether to give or not to give an arrest warrant (miracles of "changing shoes").
• The Mother of Angels, having been wounded, emitted grace in the form of light from the place of injury. And she even killed people who burned alive as a result of grace falling on their bodies. But, the body that she entered, this grace, miraculously, did not burn from the inside. Apparently, the body that an angel enters, is protected from the inside by it.
• "Psychologist" meets with the angel Amenadiel, who sits in the body of a certain black guy, who, perhaps, sees and hears everything. Doesn't such a smart psychologist understand that she has a close relationship with a guy who has become a hostage of angelic influence? Probably, angels can turn off the consciousness of their "vessels".
• Angels constantly have wings on their clothes (T-shirt, jacket, etc.), as if they grow not on the body, but above the body.
• The series has a lot of so-called "Santa Barbara": dates, pregnancies, jealousy, etc. If you remove the search for criminals, you get a protracted melodrama.
• When Chloe was imprisoned by Michael, she could not think to pray for one of the angels to hear her and come to her aid.
