Rick and Morty is a cult American animated series that skillfully blends sparkling humor with gripping science fiction elements. Created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, it immediately stood out from other shows with its uniqueness. The series is aimed at an adult audience and airs on Cartoon Network's late-night Adult Swim block. It debuted in December 2013, long before it became a mega-hit. The second season premiered in 2015, and the third concluded in the fall of 2017, on October 1st.

But the biggest turning point in the series' history occurred in May 2018. Then, the creators decided to extend the series for a whopping 70 episodes! Naturally, no one knew back then how many seasons it would ultimately span. The fourth season premiered in November 2019, with the first half released towards the end of the year and the second in May 2020, with a short break between installments. Soon after, the fifth season was officially confirmed, debuting on June 20, 2021. Viewers were treated to the sixth season in early fall 2022, on September 4.

However, further developments were accompanied by significant changes. In January 2023, Justin Roiland, one of the creators and the voice of key characters, left the show due to allegations of domestic violence. This prompted major cast changes, as Roiland's characters had to be re-voiced by new members of the team. Season seven was the first chapter to feature the updated voice cast, and fans saw it premiere on October 15, 2023. At the end of that year, the creators delighted fans with the news that the eighth season had been completed and a ninth was in development. All of this was complemented by the development of a long-awaited anime adaptation of the series, which added even more intrigue. A couple of years later, the eighth season premiered on May 25, 2025.

What makes this series so special? First and foremost, the incredible duo of its main characters: the eccentric genius scientist Rick Sanchez, with his cynical worldview and penchant for crazy adventures, and his perpetually confused but kindhearted grandson Morty. Their adventures are imbued with an inimitable atmosphere of absurdity, unexpected twists, and witty humor. Initially conceived as a parody of the legendary Back to the Future film trilogy, the story quickly transcended clichés, transforming into a distinctive work with a unique style.

In 2020, the respected publication Mir Fantastiki included Rick and Morty in its list of the best animated series of the decade, placing it alongside hits like Gravity Falls and Adventure Time. The animated series "Rick and Morty" is a collection of bright, exciting and often completely unpredictable stories and adventures that ignore strict sequence or internal logic. At the center of what is happening is the daily life of one family, but to call their everyday life ordinary would be a clear understatement. This family regularly finds itself in incredible and deadly situations: be it a chase from intergalactic killers, violation of the laws of space and time, or a direct threat of destruction of their world. However, Rick's insight and his unconventional approach to the most difficult tasks often become the key to salvation, although success is never easy and is never guaranteed.

The series deliberately avoids attempts to instill in the viewer ready-made conclusions or philosophical truths about the nature of existence, the search for the meaning of life, or universal laws. There is no place for predictability, unambiguous answers, or inevitable happy endings. On the contrary, the chaos and absurdity manifested through the characters' actions emphasize the nonlinearity and conventionality of the very concept of life.
