"Shōgun" is a new adaptation of James Clavell's world-renowned novel, offering a fresh take on a story that has already captivated readers and viewers. This historical drama series is making its second appearance on screen, following in the footsteps of the original 1980 adaptation, which became a cultural phenomenon in its day and left a lasting impression. However, the format and approach to creating such projects have evolved significantly over the decades. In August 2018, FX announced the start of production on a new version, approving a ten-episode series.

Filming took place from fall 2021 to spring 2022 at picturesque locations across Canada, allowing for the most effective capture of the story's atmosphere. Plot

A brief description of the events of the series

The series "Shôgun" is a fascinating story about the exciting adventures of the English sailor John Blackthorne, who, faced with fateful trials after surviving a shipwreck, finds himself abandoned on the unknown lands of Japan. Here he unexpectedly finds himself in the epicenter of complex and multi-layered political intrigues unfolding between powerful local feudal lords desperately fighting for influence and power. Forced to divide his existence between two diametrically opposed worlds - the West, where he came from, and the mysterious East, where he must survive, Blackthorn finds himself in a situation where his actions and decisions begin to influence not only his own fate, but also the future of the entire Japanese state. However, despite the significance of his role in what is happening, he quickly realizes that in fact he is turning into only an instrument at the mercy of the ambitious plans of Japanese leaders. The main focus of the series is on a deep and multifaceted reconstruction of the interaction of two contrasting cultures - Western and Eastern. At the same time, such key themes as loyalty, internal conflicts and the ability of heroes to make a choice in the face of difficult moral dilemmas are additionally explored.
