Plot

A brief description of the events of the series

"The Young Pope" is a deep and multi-layered story about a man whose life was forever changed by severe psychological trauma received in early childhood. Lenny Belardo, who had to experience the bitterness of betrayal from the closest people - his mother and father, who decided to abandon him, sending him to an orphanage, years later unexpectedly for himself becomes a spiritual leader for a billion-strong Catholic community. Destiny lifts him to the pinnacle of power, giving him absolute authority, which he is forced to use wisely, solving complex moral and spiritual issues.

At this new stage in his life, Lenny strives to transform the existing order of things within the church. His goal is to bring sincerity, transparency and genuine honesty to a system that has been overgrown with traditions, compromises and dogmas for centuries. However, his inner world is far from calm: the tragedy of his orphanhood does not let go, and instead of consolation, the past weighs on him with the main questions - the search for parental love and higher approval.

These contradictory feelings become the driving force of his character and actions. Lenny is almost obsessed with the thirst to find God's acceptance, which in his mind is akin to the warmth and support that he lacked since childhood. At the same time, deep down, he does not give up hope of accidentally encountering his biological parents, whose memory remains in his mind quite painfully. It was his childhood loneliness and sense of abandonment that left an indelible mark on his entire personality, becoming not only the basis for the decisions he makes, but also the key driver of the series' plot.
