A brief description of the events of the series

Season-by-season description of the series events

Season 1

The first season of "What We Do in the Shadows" transports viewers to bustling New York City, where three inseparable vampires have shared an apartment for centuries. Their seemingly endless and peaceful existence is unexpectedly turned upside down when Baron Afanasy, an influential leader of the vampire community, enters their lives. The Baron has arrived for a reason: he wants to personally assess the progress of his subjects on American soil, where they moved centuries ago, leaving Europe to conquer the New World.

However, troubles are quick to arise. The city's tranquility is overshadowed by the appearance of werewolves, forcing the vampires to temporarily put aside their internal differences and form a united front against the new threat. Meanwhile, their ambitions extend far beyond local squabbles: Manhattan becomes the launching pad for a grand plan for world conquest.

These events are accompanied by a series of absurd and amusing incidents. For example, Laszlo, deciding to take a stroll in bat form, suddenly finds himself trapped by wildlife control. And the ancient and majestic Baron awakens from his centuries-long slumber to witness with his own eyes what has happened to his once-fearsome vampire clan.

The trio's actions begin to attract the attention of the international vampire community, leading to heated discussions and gossip. Nadya completes the picture by taking the young and inexperienced Jenna, recently turned into a vampire, under her wing. She helps her integrate into her new life and even conduct her first attack on a victim. But that's not all: the heroes are entrusted with a crucial mission: organizing a grand vampire orgy, an important event with profound significance for the entire community.

Nandor, meanwhile, reflects on his own history and attempts to establish a connection with one of his descendants living in the modern era. They are separated by centuries, but the former warrior is determined to reunite his family.

The first season is a true treasure for lovers of offbeat humor and dark absurdity. It skillfully balances sarcasm and unexpected plot twists, immersing viewers in the everyday concerns of immortal beings trying to find their place in the modern world.

Season 2

The second season of "What We Do in the Shadows" returns viewers to the chaotic world of vampires desperately trying to navigate the realities of modern American life. The story comes to life even more vividly thanks to a generous dose of comical situations, unexpected twists, and a new round of complex yet captivating storylines.

This time, the characters' adventures become even more intense, and the challenges are far more serious. Lazlo and Nadya persistently search for a new familiar, but their attempts invariably end in failure, leaving the candidates far from their desired immortality. Meanwhile, Colin Robinson, an energy vampire with a special gift for absorbing emotions, unexpectedly finds himself in the corporate world. There, his unique abilities lead to genuine chaos, filled with curious incidents. And, of course, the central relationship between Nandor and his familiar, Guillermo, continues to develop. Guillermo is faced with a shocking discovery: he belongs to a line of vampire hunters. This forces him to choose again and again between loyalty to his master and following his bloody destiny.

The new season also introduces viewers to fresh antagonists, including Jim, a irritable creditor brilliantly played by Mark Hamill. Jim demands that Lazlo pay off a decades-long debt accrued 167 years ago, turning the hero's life into a true race for survival. Lazlo is forced to hide in Pennsylvania, where he pretends to own a small bar, but old troubles will still catch up with him. A special character is Simon the Cunning, a character literally obsessed with Lazlo's ill-fated witch hat. Furthermore, mysterious witches appear on the horizon, kidnapping Nandor and Lazlo for mystical rejuvenation rituals. These events force the team to embark on a rescue mission to a dangerous Brooklyn neighborhood.

The series not only delights with new plot threads but also significantly expands its mythology. The second season plunges us into a world of zombies, ghosts, witches, and even trolls! Ghosts literally haunt the characters: Nadia's ex-lover, Jeff, returns to her life, and a spiritual ritual leads to Nadia's own spirit possessing a doll. Colin Robinson discovers the fascinating world of internet trolling, where he encounters not only blocked accounts but also a real troll—and not just a virtual one.

Against this backdrop, cameos from famous actors become a true highlight of the season. Mark Hamill brilliantly embodies the vengeful Jim, while Haley Joel Osment plays the recurring zombie Topher, a character who adds even more absurdity to the series.

Season two seamlessly blends character drama with a relentless swirl of supernatural events. It deftly captures the spirit of the original, maintaining its dynamism and vibrancy while taking things a step further. New themes are explored: the characters' internal conflicts, their difficult decisions, and their interactions with various representatives of the mysterious world. Each episode features the show's signature dark humor, which skillfully balances the absurd—whether it's reviving an evil zombie or battling a troll—with the everyday problems of vampire life. The series remains true to its eccentricity and aesthetic, proving that vampire life has long since moved beyond the usual clichés.
